Imagine him with a chainsaw
There are going to be a lot of posts over the next few weeks as I continue to add more and more content to our game. Here is the final model of the bunny, before texturing of course. I'm trying to decide what kind of texture I will use. Originally, I was just planning to color the bunny white like a normal rabbit. Now, however, I think this model lends itself to the stuffed bunny look. I think a white stuffed bunny with visible stitching and a few patches would look excellent.

Looking for something new
I've had an obsession lately with finding games that are different. Very few games released lately have been truly innovative. I think that will change this year with the release of ground-breakers like Spore and Bioshock, but I think most of today's innovation is coming from the independent games scene. While we may not have the budget or the newest technology that the big developers have, we also don't have distributors breathing down our necks and fretting about anything that goes against the current trends. Just look at my new favorite game, De Blob. This game was built by 9 students in just under 4 months.
Playing this game, I was struck with inspiration on how to finally flesh out a game idea I've been toying with for some time. Now, I have a devoted team here at RIT, and the game is in production. As of now, we're only building a 1-level demo, but it's still going to be a great project.
And yes, it does involve bunnies.
P.S. I will eventually get my last game up on this site. It just still has some bugs to work out. Look for that soon.

Nobody loves Moleman
Here's one of the sprites for the enemies in Peril. Most of the other artwork isn't too interesting at the moment, but it's all the crucial items such as ground tiles, trees, etc. Now I just have to finish up the tiles for the game, and then get started on all the artwork for the HUD, inventory, menu, and everything else.
By the way, the bunny below is a quick concept drawing for the 3D game I hope to be building next quarter.

I'm too tired to think of a title
Two weeks off has let me get quite a lot accomplished, although not quite as much as I had hoped. I've now got three projects going instead of the two I had before break. The work just keeps piling up.
First off, Peril, the game being developed for Fundamentals of 2D Graphics Programming. We've got the design document done and a basic program that creates a window, switches between windowed and fullscreen mode, and has a sprite that can be moved around. Now we start on the game itself.
Next, is the Unreal Tournament 2004 level that I've been working on. I've finished building the template for about half of the structure. As you can see from the screenshot, no terrain has been done, and only the second story of the structure is built, using placeholder texture. I hope to be heading back to Flintkote this weekend to finish mapping the place out.

The last, is my own game project, code named "Clandestinus". I'm still coming up with a lot of the concepts and game mechanics, but it will focus on urban exploration, bringing in an immersive storyline based upon the Illuminati, the New World Order, and various other conspiracies.

With our forces combined...
Our team is formed and we have a game concept!
This is a big step for our project, and I'm getting quite excited. Let me introduce the members of Cyber Pulse Studios:
Dave Beach (me!)
Kevin Tarchenski - http://kevin.sitemech.com/
Marcelo Bajana - http://www.theycallusgeeks.com/2d/
Matt Sokol - http://fourthgenerationnursery.com/2d-design/
So far we've only come up with very basic concepts for the game, but I can say this; it's an action-adventure game with heavy puzzle integration. It's set in a steampunk/fantasy sort of world, and the lead character is female. I'm not going to go into any more detail yet, but stay tuned for lots of new information in the next week or so.

This is why I should never draw
So, I'm currently trying to come up with ideas for the game I'll be building for the class Fundamentals of 2D Graphics Programming. At this point, I'm leaning towards an overhead action-puzzle kinda game. Something where you're a group of cute little critters over here, and you have to get them over there, without them getting maimed in the process. I pulled out a pencil and paper the other night and just started drawing. I know the kind of feel I'm interested in. As usual, I'm going for a more surrealistic look. These are a few sketches that I did that seem like they could produce something interesting in the end.
There are a few different games I'm going to look to for inspiration; the Lemmings series, and sheep first come to mind. I just have to make sure I don't get too ambitious like in many other projects of mine.
Today, we'll be finding out who our teams actually are, so then I'll start throwing the idea out there to see whether we'll actually go forward with it. This sounds like it will be a tough project, but the end result will be a game that we'll all be able to be proud of.
On another note, I'm currently creating the 2D map of the paper mill that I'll soon be turning into a level for Unreal Tournament 2004. A few weeks ago I took another trip out to Lockport to explore the abandoned building, and took tons of measurements before deciding it was just way too cold to stay out any longer. Hopefully one of these days I'll post some photos of the building so that everyone will have an idea what to expect from the level. I look forward to spending many hours shooting my friends in Deathmatch mode, especially in one of my favorite abandoned locations.
